1880 – Women playing Table Tennis

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and gain more insight on how Table Tennis came to be. Table Tennis, also known as, Ping Pong, was originated in England during the 19th century. Table Tennis was inspired by a popular sport played by British army officers stationed in India and South Africa, Lawn Tennis. During the Winter, they wanted to play Lawn Tennis but were not able to due to the harsh weather. To solve this, they thought of different ways to translate Lawn Tennis into an indoor sport and that’s how Table Tennis came to be. Several different objects were used in fabricating this sport. They used books as the net, empty cigarette boxes as paddles, and champagne corks as the ball. The equipment for Table Tennis has become much more advanced as there are a ride range of world class paddles, balls, and tables now. For all your Table Tennis needs, we found some products online that are affordable and easily accessible.

Table Tennis has come a very long way. It wasn’t deemed an official sport, until 1927, when the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) organized the First World Championship in London, England. It was then labeled an Olympic sport in 1988. The sport quickly caught on and gained a lot of interest from various different countries. Now, Table Tennis is an established sport that requires much discipline and skill.
