Holidays are always a great excuse to come home and spend time with the people you love most. It is a time for love, sharing, laughter, and best of all presents.

We have put together a few DO’s and DON’Ts for this holiday season to make sure that you and your family have a holiday to remember

1. Dimg-thing.jpgO wear holiday gear. We say this first because Ugly Christmas Sweaters are finally a trend and we have an excuse to openly love them! Nothing makes a person laugh harder than winning an “Ugly Christmas Sweater” Competition.

2. DON’T drive yourself crazy in an effort to be the “Martha Stewart” of the family. Homemade gifts are over rated, cooking is hard, and holidays are meant for relaxing and enjoying. Unless you truly enjoy crafts, cooking, and decorating- don’t bother.

3. DO take a silly family photo. Photographs Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 11.57.32 AMlast forever, even when memories fade. This is a sure way to keep the traditions going and the memories lasting through generations. Dress up, do something silly, have some fun and that photo will be a keeper.

4. DON’T spend your entire day and night stuck indoors! Sure, sometimes its nice to spend a day inside doing nothing on your holiday break, but it can really bring down your cheery mood. Go out and enjoy a little- fresh air isn’t only healthy but fun!

5.givingwide-420x0.jpg DO something Selfless. Volunteering and helping the less fortunate may seem like a tiring way to spend your holiday when you work hard, but once you’re finally out there and doing something good for others, you can’t even imagine how good it will make you feel inside. Take an hour of your day and volunteer- you won’t regret it!

6. DON’T buy into the misguided notion that drinking must be confined to indoors. Whether we are caroling, tobogganing or on a Christmas light stroll, there is no better company than friends, family and a travel mug filled with well we can’t say because its not always legal depending on your tastes… Wesuggest maybe some hot chocolate.

Take that extra piece of cake or sugar cookie and worry about regretting it later. (We’ve posted some of our favourite drinks and desert recipes bellow- none of which we created ourselves but have found online over the years.)

8. DON’T get stressed over the holidays. We understand that sometimes finding the perfect presents can be hard, or finding time for all that cooking and entertaining, but the holidays are meant for comfort and joy, not stress and anxiety. Ask for help, and turn it into “bonding” time. Make the hard stuff seem fun again.

9. DO activities! It doesn’t matter how old you are, or if you have kids- you canhave fun anytime, Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 12.08.23 PM.pnganywhere. As we said before, sitting indoors can be a happy buzzkill so we’ve listed some of our favourite activities that we highly recommend this holiday:

  • Binge watching all your favourite Christmas movies! (we suggest starting this activity the week before and carrying it out everyday until the holidays are done!
  • Spend the day Tobogganing, Building a Snowman and Ice Skating! End it off with a warm hot chocolate and a smile because how can you not?
  • Finding the perfect tree, and then decorating said tree
  • Play cards against humanity because laughing is always a great way to start your celebrations
  • Turn on whatever music player you have around and listen to your favourite Christmas songs while making a mess in the kitchen trying to make our fun Christmas treats!

10. DON’T forget to leave out some milk and cookies for Santa- you’re not the only hungry one this holiday season, he’s doing more work than you anyway.
